Do dogs distinguish between rational and irrational acts?

Post by Fragonwings »

Faced with a situation which needs to be solved, dogs will
solve it based their survival skills, passed experience or will use a few tips given by their
owner or even a stranger according to research. Using passed experiences
like whenever the owner points to the car and opens the door, the dog is conditioned
to think time for a ride every time he sees this signal he is familiar with the
situation.

There many other situations a dog has become familiar with based on day to day life
experiences. He has learned these as a result of interacting with his owner. However in
situations that are new to him he really doesn't know what to expect. When he is in a completely
new situation all he will think about is his survival to get through this situation. Because of this
and experiments conducted researchers have come to the conclusion that dogs can't
distinguish between rational and irrational acts.
